Ducati
rider, Valentino Rossi, did not dismiss the possibility of him to fight
for the podium at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday (14/10/2012). According to "The Doctor", qualifying at Motegi Circuit which put him in ninth place on Saturday (13/10), not the end for him.
In the qualifying session which took place under sunny weather, the Desmosedici GP12 Rossi riding record best time of 1 minute 45.976 seconds. He was 1.007 seconds adrift of the Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo, who recorded the 50th pole position of his career, and only less than 0.5 seconds with the Honda Gresini rider, Alvaro Bautista, who finished fifth. Therefore, the nine-time world champion grand prix is not dismissed the possibility to fight for the podium. Rossi believes, in a 24 lap race tomorrow, he could be thrust into the front row despite starting from the third row.
"For me it would give trouble to reach the podium, but you never know. We are not so far, but the problem is that there are five or six riders are very similar in speed, so if if we can survive in the future, it is possible to reach the podium , "said Rossi told MCN, on Saturday (13/10).
"Today was not a bad day for us because we work well on the bike and in the afternoon I was able to fix a lot of my time records. I grabbed 45.9 seconds and it was not too bad.
"I'm a lot faster than last year and we're pretty happy. Unfortunately, it was not enough to put me in the second row and that's our target. I'm not too far from the front row and very close, but unfortunately I was only there in the ninth as all non- Honda and Yamaha factory very quickly.
"We were not too happy with this position, but quite happy with the performance. We have to wait and see what happens during the race, because my speed was not fantastic, but not bad. I was pretty constant."
Problems faced Rossi once again today still involves excessive heat on the carbon disc brakes. This makes him have a hard time entering the hard braking circuit in Motegi whose character is stop and go.
A number of riders were complaining about the same thing, that they lose braking power because of heat, hard braking when entering the zone.
